Love: A day in August

 The temperature was 30 degrees and the time was 6:00 am. She slept late last night but still woke up early. She got up, wore he jogging tracks and tee to go with in a warm morning. She put on her shoes and left home bidding a good bye to her mother. She was going for a morning walk, rather jog as she wanted to get back in shape. She had put on a few kilos and that was irritating her. The park was full of people; some young, some old and a few kids. Everyone wanted to taste the freshness of a beautiful morning and so they were there. A few were running, some others walking and talking. The old ones were busy with their laughter therapy and the kids were playing. She entered and joined the runners. But all the time only he was on his mind. She could not forget the last night's conversation. Her eyes were full of tears. She was completely frustrated and that is why she left home early that morning to spend some alone time. After a few rounds she went and sat at one of the benches. The conversation was still on her mind and was not leaving her. When she was thinking she did not notice that a little girl came and sat beside her and was looking at her. Tears were rolling down her eyes and the little girl with her cute soft hands rubbed them and smiled. This bought a smile on her face and she started playing with the little girl to rejuvenate her mood. At 7:00 am she left the park. At home her mother was waiting for her with breakfast but she refused and went straight into her room. She sat on her bed and closed her eyes and thought, "Is the person so important and worth that I am wasting my tears for him?" But could not find an answer. Later she took a bath had her breakfast and started her daily work. It was 12 in the noon and not a single call. She thought that may be he would realize the mistake and call but no. She finished her work had her lunch and went to finish the rest of her work. But he was there always on her mind and the conversation too. It was 4:00 pm and still no calls. This time she did not wanted to call and waited for his call. She had decided that she wont give up this time. She was unaware of the night. She did not have her dinner and went off to sleep. At 12:00 am, midnight her phone buzzed and his name was flashing. That bought a smile on her face but she was still angry. She picked up the phone and asked what she had asked last night and did not get an answer. 

She: Do you love me?

He: (Silent)
She: (Getting angry) Do you love me or not?

He: Shhhhh

She: Don't try to avoid the question.

He: Come out.

She: What?

He: Stop it and come out.

She thought it to be a poor joke and went out. In the darkness only one candle was lit up. She went nearer to that and now could see his face clearly. She was shocked. She opened the door and went out. All silent. There he was standing with a dozen roses and a cake. 

She: I......

He: Shhhh, don't speak..

She: But.........

He: I am sorry......

She: How come you here, you were out of town?

He: Sorry I did not talk properly last night otherwise how could I've surprised you this way?

She again had tears in her eyes and this time those were tears of happiness. She got her answer then and there.

She: (Silent with tears in her eyes)

He: I love you. Always and Forever. Happy Anniversary. Its been 4 years of togetherness and how could you  think that I will forget the day. I did not forget but had planned a surprise for you baby.

She: I love you too. (And with this they hugged each other)

Then they cut the cake and ate the cake as she was very very hungry and it was a chocolate cake, her favorite. She was holding on to him as long as they were together. Then they planned their next day's meet and he left. 

That night also she could not sleep properly. She was awake almost all night. Next morning again she woke up got ready and went for a jog. This time she was very very happy. After the jog she sat on the same bench and was thinking of last night when the same little girl came and sat beside her. Then coming close to her the little girl planted a kiss on her cheeks and said: "Keep smiling, tears don't suit you" and pointed towards the mango tree. There he was standing, watching he all through. She came running, hugged him and they left.
